How to choose your sunglasses?
Depending on your use and the intensity of light, several factors should be considered when choosing your sunglasses. To ensure optimal visual comfort, whether for intense sports activities or a more lifestyle-oriented use, Bollé sunglasses offer options suitable for all terrains!
Here are the points to consider when choosing your sunglasses:
- Usage: Whether you're a performance enthusiast, an outdoor sports lover, a traveler, or seeking elegant eye protection for daily life, identify the primary purpose of your sunglasses to select the perfect model.
- Face shape: Every face shape is different! Beyond style considerations, an optimal fit of the sunglasses' shape to your face plays a crucial role in ensuring an optimal and secure visual experience.
- Lens categories: As their name suggests, sunglasses protect... from the sun! They should filter out brightness to reduce glare and also protect you from the harmful UV rays emitted by the sun.
- Lens treatment: Bollé lenses offer advanced treatments such as photochromic Phantom, intelligent Volt+, or mineral Solace4. Each of them ensures exceptional optical clarity. Whether it's anti-fog protection, anti-reflective coating, polarization, photochromic properties, high-performance high-contrast, impact resistance, scratch resistance, or hydrophobic features, each Bollé lens has its own high-performance characteristics.
How to choose the category of your sunglasses?
Understanding sunglass categories is essential to find the ideal pair. The sun protection index measures the glass's ability to absorb natural light to protect the eye. Note that dark lenses do not automatically guarantee maximum UV protection.
There are 5 protection levels, ranging from 0 (the lowest percentage of filtered light) to 4 (the highest):
- Categories 1 and 2: Primarily designed for low to moderate brightness and UV levels, these categories are ideal for daily use and in low-light conditions.
- Category 3: The most common in sunglasses, it is perfectly suited for outdoor activities under moderate to intense sunlight, whether at the beach, cycling, or in similar environments.
- Category 4: Reserved for extreme brightness conditions, this category is recommended for use in high mountains, on glaciers, or on water in certain cases. Note that category 4 lenses are too dark for driving and are therefore prohibited in that context.
By transmitting a broad spectrum of visible light, photochromic lenses allow for a smooth transition in vision between bright and darker environments.
Thanks to its high-end Phantom technology, Bollé takes this innovation even further by integrating it directly into the lens. This technological achievement ensures true flexibility in terms of categories. Phantom lenses can vary from 1 to 3, from 2 to 3, or even from 2 to 4! This versatility allows for optimal adaptation to changing light conditions.
Phantom provides extremely precise visual acuity, even in the most extreme weather conditions. This technology pairs well with Volt+, a Bollé high-contrast innovation developed through artificial intelligence and the evaluation of over 20 million combinations to enhance all colors simultaneously.
For absolute protection in very bright conditions, also discover the high-performance mineral category 4 Bollé lens: SOLACE4. At high altitudes, its brown base neutralizes blue light, and its pronounced silver mirror increases reflected light. SOLACE4 offers unparalleled optical clarity, ensuring clear and protected vision.
Note that with Bollé RX technology, the majority of the brand's lenses can be adapted to your prescription eyewear if you wear corrective glasses.
What are the differences between lens colors for my sunglasses?
The lens tints of sports sunglasses are not just for aesthetics; they play an essential role in protecting your eyes and perceiving your surroundings. Whether you want to excel in your favorite activity or simply complement your active lifestyle, Bollé offers a variety of lens colors for its sunglasses. Each of these major tint categories has its unique characteristics:
- Gray lenses: Ideal for high-brightness conditions, gray lenses maintain a natural perception of colors while unifying them without distortion. An essential ally for outdoor activities like cycling, tennis, or hiking.
- Brown lenses: Suitable for sunny conditions, brown lenses enhance color contrasts and offer superior visual definition in terms of details. This color is very comfortable for the eyes and is well-suited for high-altitude sports, such as mountain sports.
- Rose lenses: Used to optimize color definition, depth perception, and reduce eye fatigue. They are ideal in various situations. While less effective than other tints in fog and mist, they work well in all other weather conditions. They will be very useful for golfing to reduce the abundance of green color.
